Excel - IF Function Problem - Expert Solution

Question description:
This user has given permission to use the problem statement for this blog.

the cell checks 5 different columns each in different tables on different sheets, if the value is=< todays date in the cell, then it checks same row different column for certain value if its the value specified then it checks other cell same row if its blank then it takes text from another cell same row. so = cell 4 if cell 1=today and cell 2=value and cell 3=empty. then it checks entire table each row is separated and it does this for 3 sheets. obviously then when the cell thats blank has data entered it will be removed.

Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 09:31
with me
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 09:31
be with me
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 09:32
we need to use conditional statements here
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 09:32
eans if else statements
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 09:38
first you need to add five colums of dates
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 09:40
now if user enters the date in B1
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 09:41
lets say 3/1/2017
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 09:42
than we need to check this date weather this is in the coloum or not
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 09:44
so here, in C1 formula is checking the value of B1 in colum A from row 1 to row 3
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 09:44
=IF(B1=$A$1:$A$3, "YES", "NO"
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 09:45
and returning the message either enterned value is present or not
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 09:45
are you following me?
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 09:46
you getting it ?
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 09:56
now when you checked the date enterned is either todays or less
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 09:56
than you will proceeds to V-lookup function
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 09:58
now vlookup will check the date enterned in the colum of date
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 09:59
ofcourse you need to format it as date
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 10:01
now lookup function I used is checking the date B1 in the colum A1:A3 and returning the value of first colum in front of that date
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 10:01
getting it
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 10:03
see here
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 10:04
changed the index from 1 to 2 and now vlookup is checking value of C2 in A1:B3 and returning the value of colum B in front of inserted or look up date
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 10:04
got it
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 10:05
so from this you can do it.
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 10:05
you can do it for 5 coulums instead of 2 which I did here.
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 10:06
I hope you got the concept here
Excelchat Expert 13/01/2018 - 10:07
I could have provided you more explanation if you have inserted the actual data. but anyway that how you will do it
