I have one sheet (Sheet1) with two columns name and department name . On the second sheet (Sheet2) , I have One column , Name. I need to use the vlookup function to import the department names from sheet1 to the respective names in sheet 2.

My example is: column A has customer name "EZ Cater" column B had customer number "C-00120" column C has text "AR Pymt - EZ Cater". I need a formula that makes following function if column C contains text from column A is equal with column B (customer number). Vlookup doesn't work here I tried approximate match but doesn't work.

I'm using vlookup to find a value that I can see exists in another book, but Excel keeps returning an #N/A. One of the values is in General form, while the other is Number form, which I know is the root of the problem. However, the value is a number that is 11 characters long so when I attempt to change the formats to match, I end up with a scientific number, which is not helpful because the first 9 digits are the same in the lookup field. How could I fix it?

I would like to create a template in Excel, where if I input a list of names of staff, it would automatically return results (in another column) who they supervisors are - probably based on a list of names somewhere else in the file. There are five teams, therefore five supervisors. I'm thinking VLOOKUP or IF but I really don't know.
