how do i calculate the verage monthly costs in ranges i4:i20? how to find minimum and maximum values: minimum costs in j4:j20 maximum cost in k4:k20

This problem was resolved in a previous session... but only in GoogleSheets. It did not work in Excel, because it exceeded the maximum number of nested formulas. I think my solution of simply needing a symbol to represent "ANY LETTER" is the best path, but I don't know how to represent this in a formula. Maybe I could assign a symbol the value of "Any letter"?? or does such a symbol already exist?? Please advise.
