Add label to the axis in Excel 2016/2013/2010/2007
We can easily add axis labels to the vertical or horizontal area in our chart. The method below works in the same way in all versions of Excel.
How to add horizontal axis labels in Excel 2016/2013
- We have a sample chart as shown below

- Next, we will click on the chart to turn on the Chart Design tab
- We will go to Chart Design and select Add Chart Element

- In the drop-down menu, we will click on Axis Titles, and subsequently, select Primary Horizontal

- Now, we can enter the name we want for the primary horizontal axis label

How to add vertical axis labels in Excel 2016/2013
- We will again click on the chart to turn on the Chart Design tab
- We will go to Chart Design and select Add Chart Element

- In the drop-down menu, we will click on Axis Titles, and subsequently, select Primary vertical

- Now, we can enter the name we want for the primary vertical axis label.

Add Axis Label in Excel 2016/2013
In Excel 2016 and 2013, we have an easier way to add axis labels to our chart.
- We will click on the Chart to see the plus sign symbol at the corner of the chart

- We will click on the plus sign to view its hidden menu
- Here, we will check the box next to Axis title
