Question description:
This user has given permission to use the problem statement for this blog.

I am trying to average cells that have zeros in them and I want to exclude the zeros in the average. I have tried the Averageif(B2:b13,"<>0") but it won't work? Any ideas?

Excelchat Expert 05/10/2018 - 12:34
Firstly, could you please share a sample data you are working with on the document preview on the right?

Hello? Are you still with me?
User 05/10/2018 - 12:37
Yes..give me 1 sec
Excelchat Expert 05/10/2018 - 12:39
Cool. Thanks, I actually showed some sample data as how to do it.
Excelchat Expert 05/10/2018 - 12:39
Cell D2 is the one using AVERAGEIF(B2:B6,"<>0")
Excelchat Expert 05/10/2018 - 12:40
Cell D3 is where I used an alternative approach which is SUMIF(B2:B6,"<>0")/COUNTIF(B2:B6,"<>0")
Excelchat Expert 05/10/2018 - 12:40
And cell D4 is a validation of the accuracy of the output of cells D2 and D3 by using a manual approach to picking out non-zero numbers in the range =(1+2+3+4)/4
User 05/10/2018 - 12:42
That won't work from me. The numbers I am trying to average are from a formula. Is that the issue?
Excelchat Expert 05/10/2018 - 12:42
Could you perhaps share your file with me so I can better check?
Excelchat Expert 05/10/2018 - 12:44
You may send the file as an attachment by clicking the paperclip button on the right side of the chatbox

Could you please extend the session?
Excelchat Expert 05/10/2018 - 12:48
We only have 3 mins left
User 05/10/2018 - 12:48
how do I do that
Excelchat Expert 05/10/2018 - 12:49
You should be getting a prompt asking for extension. Just press OK. :)
Excelchat Expert 05/10/2018 - 12:49
On the file you sent me, I can see numbers but they don't appear to be from a formula.
Excelchat Expert 05/10/2018 - 12:50
Can you perhaps send me the actual file you are working on?
User 05/10/2018 - 12:50
I can't send the file as has confidential data but you can see with the numbers it doesn't work
Excelchat Expert 05/10/2018 - 12:51
Which cell do you want the average to be shown?
User 05/10/2018 - 12:51
I don't care what cell I just want the formula to work
Excelchat Expert 05/10/2018 - 12:52
I am getting 3.583333333...
Excelchat Expert 05/10/2018 - 12:52
This is the correct average if we exclude the zero on cell A4.
Excelchat Expert 05/10/2018 - 12:52

Excelchat Expert 05/10/2018 - 12:57
Can you please check if the formula in cell D3 works from your end?
