Hi, Hopefully someone will be able to help me. I'm wanting to calculate the average sum contained within a range of cells discarding blanks. The problem that I'm encountering is that there is an additional feature where I only want to take into consideration columns that contain specific text.
=SUMIF(G79:HG79,"Sep-18",(G6:HG6/COUNTA(G6:HG6)))
G79:HG79 will contain the specific text with G:HG containing the digits.
Cheers all in advance

User
31/08/2018 - 11:35

Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:36

User

okey doke
Excelchat Expert

so here it is
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:38
let me help you with that
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:39
So given this
User
31/08/2018 - 11:39
Thanks. So how would I calculate the average sum discarding the blanks for only Sep-18?
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:39
lets say we need to calculate the average for Sep-18 other than 0's in column C
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:40
ll use a formula called Averageif
User
31/08/2018 - 11:40
yep
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:42
so here it is
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:42
Let's check if it is right
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:43
so there are two 1's for sep-18
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:43
and average is one without the zero
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:43
otherwise the average would have been 0.66667
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:45
the formula is =Averageifs(range from where you want to calculate the average,1st range for a criteria, value of criteria, 2nd range of criteria, value of 2nd criteria....)
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:45
in out our case
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:45
we want an average from C2 to C37
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:45
our first criteria range is C2 to C37 itself
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:45
and value of criteria is >0
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:45
you can also provide <>0
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:46
sexond criteria range is B2 to B37
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:46
and value of the criteria is "Sep-18"
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:46
so that gives us the correct average ignoring the 0s
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:46
Would you have any question for me related to this?
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:47
=AVERAGEIFs($C$2:$C$37,$C$2:$C$37,">0",$B$2:$B$37,"Sep-18")
Excelchat Expert
31/08/2018 - 11:47
