good, how are you?
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:46
I am great, thank you!
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:46
So can you please elaborate more on the problem?
User 10/07/2018 - 04:49
I have a column in worksheet 1 that I want to link to worksheet 2 (same workbook). Column in worksheet 1 is Column A, row 1-10 (say numbers 1-10). I want this linked to worksheet 2, but in worksheet 2, those 10 numbers would be in column 1, but in rows 1,3,5 (1,2,3), then skip a bunch of cells and rows 10, 12, 14 (4,5,6), then rows 21, 23, 25 (7,8,9) and last row 32 (10).
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:50
Ok
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:51
Let me create a sample data and show you.
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:51
since we are skipping few rows in between in Sheet 2 - we have to manually put the formula for each cell.
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:52
so let's say Column A is on the sheet 1 contains number from 1 to 10
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:52
Please see the Preview on the right.
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:53
Are you with me on this?
User 10/07/2018 - 04:53
yes
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:53
Now let's go to Sheet 2
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:53
Please go to Sheet 2 on the preview.
User 10/07/2018 - 04:54
ok
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:54
Now suppose in Column A and row 2 I want to link 5th cell of Sheet 1
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:55
so for every cell we want to link we have to do it manually
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:55
is that what your are looking for?
User 10/07/2018 - 04:56
so there is no formula to account for spaces in between?
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:56
No
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:56
there is no formula possible in excel.
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:56
we can try few shortcuts depending on the data
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:57
For examples
User 10/07/2018 - 04:57
never mind, a colleague just told me how to do it - you should get some more training there. thank you
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:58
Ok but this is not possible on a empty sheet.
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:58
we need to see the data structure.
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:58
Which is I am telling you.
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:58
If you have data in other cells
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:58
then you can add filter on the heading
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:58
and filter the result with blank cells
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:59
and then you will have all the blank cells together
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 04:59
and then you can just put the formula in 1 cell and drag it down.
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 05:00
Are you still there?
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 05:01
I presume your colleague has access to the data you have and he would have told you the same method.
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 05:01
so there is no direct way to do this on empty sheet.
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 05:03
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 05:04
Since you have been unresponsive, I request you to provide good feedback
Excelchat Expert 10/07/2018 - 05:04
Thank you
