If I understand your concern correctly, you want to change the color of a range in a chart when depending on whether it has content or none. Is this correct? :)

Yes

We'd need to change the color of the whole range if one of the cells has any content

I see! Okay then. Perhaps it is best if we can demonstrate a solution on a sample problem here. Or if it's okay with you, can you perhaps provide your working file for us to look at? Thanks! :)

We currently have nothing in a working file, but I can give an example

Oh sure, that would be great! :)

So with that R in there I would like all the cells to the right of John Smith's name from B2 through H2 turn green. Since the second week has nothing I'd like all the cells from I2 through O2 to turn red

Does that make sense? I'd like to do the whole month as well

Oh! I thought we're actually going to work on with charts in here. Like, bar charts and pie charts lol :D
User

Oh my bad, sorry!
Excelchat Expert

It's okay. Let's just look at then your concern as of the moment. :)

Thank you!

Okay, I believe I understood your concern in here. You want to shade the week green if it has something on it, while red if it has nothing on it. Okay, let me work on a solution for this one and update you the soonest. :)

Perfect, thank you

I have 6 minutes left in the chat, any luck?
Excelchat Expert

Oh, we could actually extend for free when timer hits around 2 minutes. I'll need to think hard on this one since it's pretty tricky, but I believe it is doable. :)

Thank you so much!

Thank you!

Will it extend again if we run out of time?
Excelchat Expert
14/06/2018 - 07:40
Yup. :)
User

Cool!

That'll be the last free extension though, since we're allowed only twice. :)
User
14/06/2018 - 07:41
Well hopefully we won't need another haha
Excelchat Expert
14/06/2018 - 07:42
Already done. :)
User
14/06/2018 - 07:42
Perfect!
Excelchat Expert

Basically, it's a play of conditional formatting using a formula. :)
User
14/06/2018 - 07:43
That's what we figured, but couldn't get it to work haha
Excelchat Expert
14/06/2018 - 07:43
The formula is equal ot the one in row 3. :)
Excelchat Expert
14/06/2018 - 07:43
Oh nice! Glad to be of help then. :)
User

Btw, you can download a copy of the document preview by going to File > Download as > Microsoft Excel (.xlsx). The formulas will be downloaded as well. :)
User
14/06/2018 - 07:45
Perfect, thanks so much. So if we need to enter more names would we just go every other line down?
Excelchat Expert
14/06/2018 - 07:46
Yes, you can just drag down the cells :)
User
14/06/2018 - 07:46
Oh cool, so if we just put it at the bottom it works?
Excelchat Expert
14/06/2018 - 07:47
Oh, you could just delete the TRUE/FALSE row since it's just an indication that the conditional formatting is working. :)
Excelchat Expert
14/06/2018 - 07:47
Basically, the same formula used on them is the one that is entered in the conditional formatting of the cells. :)
User
14/06/2018 - 07:47
Oh great, thanks so much!
User
14/06/2018 - 07:48
I'll end the session now
