Hello there, welcome to Got it! :)
User 15/05/2018 - 03:48
Hi!
Excelchat Expert 15/05/2018 - 03:49
I've read your concern, and if I understand correctly, you need to arrange some set of data according to some conditions.
User 15/05/2018 - 03:49
Yes.
Excelchat Expert 15/05/2018 - 03:50
Okay, nice! let me help you with that. Are the data we're supposed to be arranged the once you pasted in the document preview? :)
Excelchat Expert 15/05/2018 - 03:51
Hello? :)
User 15/05/2018 - 03:52
Yes! Thanks! The end result I need is the first column to be a list of Locations, with it's coordinating industry. For example, in Row 2, KC and is correct with KC. But in Line 11, I need to put KC in the first column, and OPR in the second columnd
User 15/05/2018 - 03:52
*column
User 15/05/2018 - 03:52
Rows 4-6 are similar to row 11
Excelchat Expert 15/05/2018 - 03:53
Oh I see. Basically, you want to interchange data according to their column header (Location and Industry)
User 15/05/2018 - 03:54
Yes. I've done it manually, but it took forever for 800+ rows
Excelchat Expert 15/05/2018 - 03:54
Oh wow I see. Okay, it seems to be doable but we need to know what actually are the locations. Do you have a list of this one? :)
User 15/05/2018 - 03:55
For Location, KC, ATL, MSP, SCA
Excelchat Expert 15/05/2018 - 03:57
Okay. So for this one, we will rearrange the two columns (column A and B) into columns C (Location) and D (Industry). If the formula detects that the row items are correctly organized, it just copy pastes the data. However, if it detects that the data are misaligned, it interchanges the data.
User 15/05/2018 - 03:57
Cool
Excelchat Expert 15/05/2018 - 03:58
After we establish the formula and corrected the alignment of data, we can just copy these corrected data and paste as values. After which, we delete column A and B (originally the unorganized data).
User 15/05/2018 - 03:58
ok
Excelchat Expert 15/05/2018 - 04:03
Already done. :)
User 15/05/2018 - 04:03
Awesome!
Excelchat Expert 15/05/2018 - 04:03
:)
Excelchat Expert 15/05/2018 - 04:04
So basically, you can replicate this in your original data. :)
User 15/05/2018 - 04:04
How did you do that? What was the formula
Excelchat Expert 15/05/2018 - 04:04
You can view the formula by clicking on column C or D. :)
User 15/05/2018 - 04:05
Oh, ok!
Excelchat Expert 15/05/2018 - 04:05
Basically, what the formula does is it tries to compare column B with the locations in column G.
Excelchat Expert 15/05/2018 - 04:05
If it detects that the item in column B is a location, it displays the value of column A. If not, it displays column B.
Excelchat Expert 15/05/2018 - 04:06
The formula in column D also does the same thing for the industry. :)
User 15/05/2018 - 04:06
Ok
Excelchat Expert 15/05/2018 - 04:06
You can now replicate this in your original data. :)
Excelchat Expert 15/05/2018 - 04:07
Btw, you can download a copy of this document preview by going to File > Download as > Microsoft Excel (.xlsx)
User 15/05/2018 - 04:07
Cool. I didn't know that.
Excelchat Expert 15/05/2018 - 04:07
Sure thing! Any more concerns? :)
User 15/05/2018 - 04:08
Nope. That was it. Thank you!
Excelchat Expert 15/05/2018 - 04:08
