Question description:
This user has given permission to use the problem statement for this blog.

I used the formula =COUNTIF for cells to define adding the number of cells that have numbers totaling 0 or above. However, When I try using it in another set of columns it is not doing what I need it to. Now, the column that is not working has both colored cells and formula'd numbers within the cells. I dont understand what I am doing wrong, please help!

Excelchat Expert 08/04/2018 - 06:20
Can you upload the working file you're working with right now? So we could remedy the problem. Thanks! ;)
User 08/04/2018 - 06:21
okay I am getting file now so I can show you what I am doing. Give me just a second
Excelchat Expert 08/04/2018 - 06:21
Sure thing! :)
Excelchat Expert 08/04/2018 - 06:24
Hi there, anything I could assist you with the uploading? :)
User 08/04/2018 - 06:26
I am unable to upload the file, stupid computer I am sending from keeps disconnecting to access the file.
Excelchat Expert 08/04/2018 - 06:27
Oh I see. Hmm. Could you then copy the formula you're using here? Or you could simulate a sample in the document preview
User 08/04/2018 - 06:28
yes I can.... so I will lay it out now on the spreadsheet
Excelchat Expert 08/04/2018 - 06:28
Sure please do. Thanks!
User 08/04/2018 - 06:31
okay so that is it, and here it worked but on the file I am working with nothing displays
User 08/04/2018 - 06:31
it accepts the formula and shows a blank cell
Excelchat Expert 08/04/2018 - 06:31
Oh I see. Did you copy the right formula from your working file?
User 08/04/2018 - 06:31
yes
Excelchat Expert 08/04/2018 - 06:32
How about the samples you entered here?
User 08/04/2018 - 06:32
could it have anything to do with the fact that the cells I am pulling the information from to create my formula are color coded and have formula'd information in the cells themselves?
User 08/04/2018 - 06:32
so lets say D5 is colored "red" because it has a positive number..... but it also has a formula to make it the number 8 in the cell
Excelchat Expert 08/04/2018 - 06:33
Hmmm. Do the formulas produce a number? If so, then it should still be okay.
User 08/04/2018 - 06:33
yes they produce the number
Excelchat Expert 08/04/2018 - 06:33
What do you mean by "t also has a formula to make it the number 8 in the cell"
User 08/04/2018 - 06:34
its weird... the functions argument shows the right number of cells that need to be added that are less than 0 but when I hit enter it doesnt show up in the cell
Excelchat Expert 08/04/2018 - 06:34
Hmm weird.
Excelchat Expert 08/04/2018 - 06:35
Can you not really upload the file?
User 08/04/2018 - 06:36
the font was off!!!!!!!!!!! it wasnt automatic black
Excelchat Expert 08/04/2018 - 06:36
Can you try deleting the cell with formula or color coding?
Excelchat Expert 08/04/2018 - 06:36
Oh lol! :D
Excelchat Expert 08/04/2018 - 06:37
Nice to have it fixed then. :)
