I understand you have a query about IF function.
User 05/04/2018 - 02:25
Yes
Excelchat Expert 05/04/2018 - 02:26
The formula you wrote in description is correct and yes you can incorporate a letter into an IF formula.
Excelchat Expert 05/04/2018 - 02:26
So, if you have specific query, please ask me.
User 05/04/2018 - 02:26
It didn't work
Excelchat Expert 05/04/2018 - 02:27
Can you show me your work in the preview window?
User 05/04/2018 - 02:28
My actual formula is =IF(F10="N",1,IF(F10="C",2,IF(F10="S",3,IF(F10="L",4,IF(F10="W",5,0))))). I entered an N into F10 and 0 showed up instead of 1
Excelchat Expert 05/04/2018 - 02:29
Okay, lets see.
Excelchat Expert 05/04/2018 - 02:30
The same formula you wrote is working in the preview sheet. Did you enter N manually or copy pasted it from a source?
User 05/04/2018 - 02:30
Entered it manually
Excelchat Expert 05/04/2018 - 02:31
Strange, would you be able to send me the file? cause nothing wrong in the formula.
Excelchat Expert 05/04/2018 - 02:31
to upload a file, please click on the paperclip icon on the right.
User 05/04/2018 - 02:33
Ogive me a minute
Excelchat Expert 05/04/2018 - 02:33
sure, take your time.
User 05/04/2018 - 02:37
When I collapsed it down to just the formula to attach, it worked!
Excelchat Expert 05/04/2018 - 02:38
Is the formula =IF(F10="N",1,IF(F10="C",2,IF(F10="S",3,IF(F10="L",4,IF(F10="W",5,0))))) part of a bigger formula?
Excelchat Expert 05/04/2018 - 02:38
which isn't working?
User 05/04/2018 - 02:40
That's the entire formula
Excelchat Expert 05/04/2018 - 02:40
And it still isn't working?
Excelchat Expert 05/04/2018 - 02:40
Only 3 more minutes remaining..
Excelchat Expert 05/04/2018 - 02:42
Thanks for choosing to extend.
User 05/04/2018 - 02:42
When I saved the worksheet as a different sheet and erased all but the formula it worked. It just didn'tseem to work in the original workshet
Excelchat Expert 05/04/2018 - 02:43
I see. May be there was something off with the formatting of the original sheet. But I cannot say for sure without taking a look.
User 05/04/2018 - 02:45
Thanks.I'll go back and assess. Now that I know I did the formula correctly I should be able to fix.
Excelchat Expert 05/04/2018 - 02:46

Excelchat Expert 05/04/2018 - 02:48

User 05/04/2018 - 02:48
