hi there!
Excelchat Expert 29/03/2018 - 03:04
From your problem description, it looks like you're trying to create a formula which check the previous cell to see if they are the same value?
User 29/03/2018 - 03:05
yes, and then put an x in the cell to the left
Excelchat Expert 29/03/2018 - 03:05
gotcha - i'm making a little test in our google sheet - let me know if you can see it
Excelchat Expert 29/03/2018 - 03:05
so E1 will be blank of course
User 29/03/2018 - 03:05
I can see it
Excelchat Expert 29/03/2018 - 03:06
check that out - let me know if that is what you're after
User 29/03/2018 - 03:07
I copied it in excel and all I see is the formula in the call
User 29/03/2018 - 03:07
cell
Excelchat Expert 29/03/2018 - 03:08
if you put only a "=" in the next cell down, does it prompt you to enter a formula, or does it just show a "="?
User 29/03/2018 - 03:08
It just shows =if(F3=F2,ʺXʺ,ʺʺ)
User 29/03/2018 - 03:08
in the cell
Excelchat Expert 29/03/2018 - 03:09
ok
Excelchat Expert 29/03/2018 - 03:09
can you delete that
Excelchat Expert 29/03/2018 - 03:09
and in the cell, only put a "="
Excelchat Expert 29/03/2018 - 03:09
then press the down arrow - does it prompt you to enter a formula, or does it just show the =?
Excelchat Expert 29/03/2018 - 03:10
like - if you manually type in the formula that I gave you, does it work, or just show the formula you typed?
User 29/03/2018 - 03:11
it still is showing just the formula
User 29/03/2018 - 03:11
=IF(F3=F2,ʺXʺ,ʺʺ)
Excelchat Expert 29/03/2018 - 03:12
weird! ok - can you delete that, then highlight the entire column, and right click, and then select "format cells"
Excelchat Expert 29/03/2018 - 03:12
and let me know what format is showing
User 29/03/2018 - 03:12
text
Excelchat Expert 29/03/2018 - 03:12
i think thats the issue
Excelchat Expert 29/03/2018 - 03:13
can you change the format to "General" in the cells you need to add the formula to
User 29/03/2018 - 03:13
ok
Excelchat Expert 29/03/2018 - 03:13
and then try and manually type the formula in again
Excelchat Expert 29/03/2018 - 03:13
not copy/paste (just to make sure)
User 29/03/2018 - 03:14
oh
Excelchat Expert 29/03/2018 - 03:16
