I need a formula to check one cell on the 1st sheet (e2) with a list on another sheet (Sheet1) in the A column, starting at A1
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:19

User 15/03/2018 - 12:19

Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:21
you have not specified a number before false
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:21
it can be 1,2 or 3 as per ou case
User 15/03/2018 - 12:22
What is the number signifying?
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:22
it you want to show 3rd column from your range then use 3
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:22

User 15/03/2018 - 12:23

Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:23

User 15/03/2018 - 12:23

Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:24
just some sample data for me to work
User 15/03/2018 - 12:25
ok
User 15/03/2018 - 12:26
The formula I'm having issues with is in V1, the data I'm trying to search for in e2 is sheet 4
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:29
what do you want to show in V1
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:29
?
User 15/03/2018 - 12:29
Whether or not a word in e2 is on sheet4
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:29
ok
User 15/03/2018 - 12:30
The word list are metaphors, and the calculation is the figurative meaning of words in the selected tweet
User 15/03/2018 - 12:30
theoretically if there are metaphors, the message intends to communicate figurative meaning
User 15/03/2018 - 12:30
ty so much, I've been trying everything
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:31
that word is not there i the list
User 15/03/2018 - 12:32
? on sheet4, row 229 it says "grassroots"
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:32
see my formula in W2
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:33
no
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:33
it matches the entire text in the cell
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:33
"grassroots With grateful hearts, Renee and I join our community in praying for these soldiers and the families they are leavin\u2026 https:\/\/t.co\/h4lkENpcQo","tr
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:33
not just a word
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:34
hope thus helps
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:34
do you get it?
User 15/03/2018 - 12:34
so it has to match the entire cell
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:34
yes
User 15/03/2018 - 12:34
oh, I was looking for a formula to find if a word in one cell matches any on another sheet
User 15/03/2018 - 12:34
maybe I asked that incorrectly
User 15/03/2018 - 12:35
do I have to include an exact statement?
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:35
then you need to specify that word in the formula
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:36
see formula n2
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:36
it is searching grassroots
User 15/03/2018 - 12:36
ok
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:37
yes
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:37
hope this helps
User 15/03/2018 - 12:37
Hmm that's clever, but I want to search the E cell for the presence of any word on sheet 4
User 15/03/2018 - 12:37
Not a specific word, but a range of words/phrases on the separate sheet.
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:37
but lookup function search the entire value in the cell
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:38
your cell should have proper values to be search upon
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:38
in this case E1 is having a sentence which is not there in sheet 4
User 15/03/2018 - 12:38
ok
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:38
just play wih the formula
User 15/03/2018 - 12:39
which one?
User 15/03/2018 - 12:39
I'll certainly do that
Excelchat Expert 15/03/2018 - 12:39
