Question description:
This user has given permission to use the problem statement for this blog.

I got an error message "reference isn't valid" I was trying to group two objects when it happened. The error message has me locked up. If I close it and click on anything else in excel it pops up again

I clicked on the text box and on the shape image and clicked on group

Select both objects using Ctrl+ click

It will not let me do anything! if I click OK on the error message it closes. When I try to click on anything it pops up again

your advice on how to group is not useful. I did all those steps. It grouped them. Then I tried to move thje grouped image and it crashed

As it is very straight way to group objects.

Simple select objects one by one using Ctrl button and then right click and choose Group Ungroup option.

Ive never had the issue. I have have grouped hundreds of times. I've never seen this error. I don't thjink it involed grouping

Use paper clip option at the bottom of chat box to upload file.

I can't ddo it. The error message pops up as soon as I try to save the file. I closed the error and clicked on File - uipo came the error

Did you restart your system? Sometimes it resolve the issue.

You can copy paste your data in new excel file and then save it with new name.
