Excel - COUNT Function Problem - Expert Solution

Question description:
This user has given permission to use the problem statement for this blog.

I am managing a rule for a spread sheet. I want rule to check for a specific letter "h" in this example, in order to change the colour of a cell. The problem is, it conflicts with another rule that changes to a different colour, with "ath" in. What im trying to achieve is the former rule, to check the cell for only specifically "h" and not count any time it is contained next to other characters.

User 18/12/2017 - 02:33
hi there, so as above to explain it in english instead of formula
User 18/12/2017 - 02:33
i want to achieve "if a cell ="h" change the colour, but not if "?H?" or something along those lines
User 18/12/2017 - 02:34
so do not include anything other than specifically just the H in a cell
User 18/12/2017 - 02:34
and not it is part of another word
Excelchat Expert 18/12/2017 - 02:34
so as I understand that you are looking for a conditional formating based on your requirement
User 18/12/2017 - 02:35
yes
Excelchat Expert 18/12/2017 - 02:35
so you want if the cell contains just the letter "h" to change to certain color
User 18/12/2017 - 02:35
yep
Excelchat Expert 18/12/2017 - 02:35
is my understanding correct
Excelchat Expert 18/12/2017 - 02:35
okay
Excelchat Expert 18/12/2017 - 02:36
just give a few minutes
Excelchat Expert 18/12/2017 - 02:36
let me look for a solution
User 18/12/2017 - 02:36
thank you
Excelchat Expert 18/12/2017 - 02:39
there is some limitation with regards to conditional formating in online excel sheet
User 18/12/2017 - 02:39
i thought there might be
Excelchat Expert 18/12/2017 - 02:39
so I will work on a local copy of excel for your problem
Excelchat Expert 18/12/2017 - 02:39
please bear with me
User 18/12/2017 - 02:39
ok no worries
Excelchat Expert 18/12/2017 - 02:48
so normally the conditional formating usually takes both upper and lower case as one and the same
Excelchat Expert 18/12/2017 - 02:48
but I am trying to look if there is a workaround with some formula that can make it differentiate between the two
User 18/12/2017 - 02:49
i saw one
User 18/12/2017 - 02:49
online
Excelchat Expert 18/12/2017 - 02:49
just be with me
Excelchat Expert 18/12/2017 - 02:49
okay
User 18/12/2017 - 02:49
"isnumber" was result
User 18/12/2017 - 02:49
that works for text
User 18/12/2017 - 02:49
but it requires a substring
Excelchat Expert 18/12/2017 - 02:50
okay let me try that
User 18/12/2017 - 02:57
sorry but i have to go, thank you for your time up until now
Excelchat Expert 18/12/2017 - 03:01

Excelchat Expert 18/12/2017 - 03:01
