Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 11:57

User 19/10/2017 - 11:57
i needs rows of information to stay together when i make some coloumns alphabetical
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 11:58
you need to select all the column then use custom sort
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 11:58
like that?
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 11:59
i will make a guide for you in a picture file
User 19/10/2017 - 11:59
so on whatb you have done there. if i wanted the cell with B and the cell with 2 in to stay joined together so if i highlighted all the information and made i alphabetical them 2 rows stay together
User 19/10/2017 - 12:00
so when i make 1 column alphabetice the information in the horizontal rows stay joined together
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:00
yes like my sample right?
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:01
B is joined with 2
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:01
A is joined with 1
User 19/10/2017 - 12:01
YES!!
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:01
C is joined with 3
User 19/10/2017 - 12:01

Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:01
ok,
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:01

User 19/10/2017 - 12:02
so say i had someones name in 1 colum and then their salary in another column , if i made all the names alphabetical then the salary would stay with the right name
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:03

User 19/10/2017 - 12:07
but say letter A should be joined with number 3, would these get mixed up when i put it all in order?
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:08
no
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:08
it will not mixed up, make sure you blocked select all before sort
User 19/10/2017 - 12:08
ok great, maybe i should follow instructions and see how i go ?

thankyou, youve been more helpful than anyone else
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:09
have you tried it?
User 19/10/2017 - 12:10
im trying now, but it will take me abit of time
User 19/10/2017 - 12:10
so on your instructions it says to sort colum into alphabetic bevause these are the names, but when i do this , they are no longer next to their correct salary
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:11
you also selected the salary right?
User 19/10/2017 - 12:11
yes?
User 19/10/2017 - 12:12
but it moves them all in orders.
User 19/10/2017 - 12:12
so the names and the salarys end up next to different the wrong ones
User 19/10/2017 - 12:12
they are alphabetic but the salary that is now next to them is a different persons
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:12
hmm, undo
User 19/10/2017 - 12:12
ok have done
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:13
then do it again
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:13
where is your name and salary column?
User 19/10/2017 - 12:13
ok i will
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:13
i will make an instruction that are same with your screen
User 19/10/2017 - 12:13
my name colum is letter A column, and the salary is in the next column along (b)
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:14
ok
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:15
are the salary is caluclated using formula?
User 19/10/2017 - 12:16
no, just a writen in amount by me
User 19/10/2017 - 12:17
so, just what i writeen, how do i make jamies cell stick to £150,000, so when i put all the names in alphabetical order, the salary stays with the name
Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:19
[Uploaded an Excel file]

Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:22

Excelchat Expert 19/10/2017 - 12:22
unselected column will not joined when sorting
