Hi there, I understand that you need help with an IF() statement, right?
Excelchat Expert 29/09/2017 - 07:58
The general syntax of an IF() statement is IF(logical_test, TRUE value, FALSE value)
Excelchat Expert 29/09/2017 - 07:58
So basically what you need is if(A1<1250,250,A1)
User 29/09/2017 - 07:59
thanks, let me try that in my sheet qyuckly
Excelchat Expert 29/09/2017 - 07:59
This means that if the value of A1 is less than 1250 then the value where the formula is written will be 250, but if it is greater than 1250 then the value will be the same.
Excelchat Expert 29/09/2017 - 08:00
You can use the sample formula I have in cell B1 in our document preview.
Excelchat Expert 29/09/2017 - 08:03
I can see that you typed something in the document preview. How may I help you with that information?
User 29/09/2017 - 08:03
hi there, so what I'm trying to establish is, if the value in cell b6 is less than 1250, then the cell in b7 auto corrects to 250, if it's more than 1250 then its a % of the same cell, does that make sense?
Excelchat Expert 29/09/2017 - 08:03
Okay, where do you want the output to be? The reason I'm asking is because you can't have a formula in the same cell where your values are.
Excelchat Expert 29/09/2017 - 08:04
For instance, we can't write a formula in cell B6 anymore because it already has a value.
Excelchat Expert 29/09/2017 - 08:04
That's called a circular reference and will result in an error in Excel.
Excelchat Expert 29/09/2017 - 08:04
We can, however, write that formula in C6.
Excelchat Expert 29/09/2017 - 08:05
Let me try something.
User 29/09/2017 - 08:05
ok i understand the circular reference
Excelchat Expert 29/09/2017 - 08:06
Okay, I may have misunderstood your request.
Excelchat Expert 29/09/2017 - 08:06
I'm glad you explained it to me.
Excelchat Expert 29/09/2017 - 08:06
Now I have the correct formula in B7.
Excelchat Expert 29/09/2017 - 08:06
You can try and change the value in B6 to see if it works.
User 29/09/2017 - 08:07
thanks, let me take a quick look
User 29/09/2017 - 08:09
perfect, that works on my master sheet, can't believe how easy it is when you see it written down, seems obvious, thanks so much for your help. C
