i want to create a very simple if function in a cell which is, if one cell is less than 1250, then the automatic value in the current cell is 250, dead easy, for someone who knows! Thank you.

This means that if the value of A1 is less than 1250 then the value where the formula is written will be 250, but if it is greater than 1250 then the value will be the same.

hi there, so what I'm trying to establish is, if the value in cell b6 is less than 1250, then the cell in b7 auto corrects to 250, if it's more than 1250 then its a % of the same cell, does that make sense?

Okay, where do you want the output to be? The reason I'm asking is because you can't have a formula in the same cell where your values are.

For instance, we can't write a formula in cell B6 anymore because it already has a value.

That's called a circular reference and will result in an error in Excel.
