I have a CSV student responses to questions on a math test. Some of the answers are input as fractions (3/5, etc.) When I open in excel, these fractions get converted to dates. If I change the format back to text or number, Excel changes it into its date code, instead of its value (3/5 becomes 45329 instead of .6 or 3/5) which is obviously not what I need. I have no control over the source data. Is there a way I can stop Excel from autoconverting 3/5 to date when I first open the file? I have Excel 2013.

I need help with formatting cells with fractions. I want to be able to say change colour with any values above 3.5/5, but when I enter 4/5 it doesn't like that colour. Am I doing something wrong?
