I could use some major help on a few spreadsheets that require Vlookup, format Painter and formulas. The object of the sheet is to track books that a company (i.e. Nordstrom) has purchased for the entire year. The spreadsheet was started by my predecessor who is much more of an Excel whizz. Help!

Conditional formatting compares a value in, say H1 to G1 and highlights if greater. How do you copy that to compare H2 to G2? When I use format painter, it shows as $H$1 compared to G2 rather than H1. I tried taking out the "$"s and it still doesn't work.
